A good dog can play into your home security plan?!

Basically I have been thinking about this and was wondering who else feels that having a dog helps secure the home?

I feel that any medium to large dog can help detour crooks from targeting your house. 

While a dog might not stop everyone from targeting you home, it might help buy you enough time so that you can be warned, call 911, get a weapon, scare them off etc.

How do you all feel about dogs for home security.

I am thinking of dogs like German Shepards, Dobermans, pitbulls, rottweilers, etc

Can anyone suggest affordable / quality SAFES for home?

I would eventually like to get a safe that can hold a variety of items including guns, etc.

I'd like something that the crooks cannot just crack into,  I would also like to be able to anchor it to the floor or for it to be nearly impossible to just wheel it out.

Any suggestions on good safes at a good value would be appreciated!
