A good dog can play into your home security plan?!

Basically I have been thinking about this and was wondering who else feels that having a dog helps secure the home?

I feel that any medium to large dog can help detour crooks from targeting your house.

While a dog might not stop everyone from targeting you home, it might help buy you enough time so that you can be warned, call 911, get a weapon, scare them off etc.

How do you all feel about dogs for home security.

I am thinking of dogs like German Shepards, Dobermans, pitbulls, rottweilers, etc

DOGS;
i agree 100% SPORTFAN
        A barking dog is another line of defence around you, because it will detect intruders before they reach the house. In one theatre of operations In which i was involved, our target was based near a farmyard. Because of the farm dogs we simply could'nt get close enough to carry out observation on the target. We tried time and time again, but on every occasion the dogs would bark notifying the owners of our presence and we had to withdraw. In the end we were forced to accept that it was impossible to achieve the physical presence to carry out surveillance and we had to use other means to gain the information we needed. A dog initially costs less than an alarm system and is one of the best security devices you can have in a house, always provided it's big enough to deter, but not so vicious that it threatens your kids and family. A small dog like a poodle or spaniel is not much use , but a bigger one as you have described in your post that will bark at the right times is a real deterrent. I will be covering a whole section on Dogs and the difference between Attack dogs and Guard dogs in the next few days at www.securityconcerns.co.uk, i hope this gives you some insight into Dogs and security as a whole.  Wink

Ya! Smiley  Dude i will agree your Points. But if the burglars provides any critical dosage biscuits to dog, then our security will be ? So we need to give 100% training to our dogs. And we need to practice giving food stuffs in only one kind of a plate, if we use it often then our dogs will be eat the foods only on that plates. So their is no chance of eating the grounded food stuffs. Wink

Yeah It's true. Dogs can make us alert and thus we can do some preparation . But it doesn't help all the situations. Burglars also  known how to deal with a dog. So we must do some safety methods for the home security like wireless alarms, motion detectors, cctvs,  fire alarms, glass break alarms.
